Positano

Photographer in Positano Photo Sessions in the Most Scenic Village on the Amalfi Coast

Positano is the postcard you've been picturing — pastel houses cascading down the cliffs, the majolica dome of Santa Maria Assunta, and that long staircase to the sea. I shoot here several times a week and know the spots that look perfect even in summer crowds.

Why a photo session in Positano

Positano is the village everyone pictures when they think of the Amalfi Coast — and unlike most postcard places, it actually delivers. The pastel houses pile up on top of each other like terraces; the church dome at the bottom catches every sunset; bougainvillea spills over walls that are exactly the colour of dried apricots. Almost any frame here looks like it was composed.

What’s tricky is that everyone else knows this too. By 11 in the morning the famous staircase is full of people taking the same photo. The light from noon onwards is hard and contrasty, especially in summer. So we work around it: we start early or late, and we use the side streets that almost nobody photographs even though they look better than the main view.

What our session typically looks like

A signature session in Positano usually starts at the top of the village and walks down. We begin in the quiet residential streets above Hotel Poseidon — small terraces, glimpses of sea, walls covered in plants. Halfway down we reach the dome and the small piazza around it; this is where the iconic dome-and-houses frame happens. From there it’s a short staircase to Spiaggia Grande, where the village rises behind you and the boats give scale.

If you have time and energy, we can keep walking to Fornillo, the smaller beach on the other side. It’s quieter, the rocks are dramatic, and the light at the end of the day is softer.

Practical things to know

  • Stairs. Positano is a vertical village. Comfortable shoes — sandals are fine, heels are a struggle — make a real difference.
  • Crowds. First slot of the morning (7:00–8:00 AM) is the quietest, by far.
  • Weather. Even on overcast days the colours hold up well; only heavy rain disrupts a session, in which case we reschedule.
  • Driving. The road into Positano is famously narrow. If you’re coming by taxi from Sorrento or Naples, allow extra time in summer.

When the session ends I deliver edited images via a private online gallery within five to seven days. You can download the full resolution files, share a few on Instagram the same day, and have the rest as keepsakes.

Best photo spots — Positano

Spiaggia Grande, the main beach — the village rises behind you in one frame.
Via Cristoforo Colombo, the small terraces above the church with rooftop and dome views.
The steps leading down from Via Pasitea — pastel walls, bougainvillea, almost no traffic before 9 AM.
The harbour wall by the ferry terminal — dramatic backdrop of cliffs and boats.
Fornillo Beach, a 10-minute walk west — quieter sand, calmer light, fewer people.
The path from Hotel Le Sirenuse looking down the coast — high-angle, late-afternoon.
Best light: 7:00–9:00 AM (the village is empty and sun lifts off the cliffs gently) or after 5:30 PM in summer (golden, then a long blue hour). Midday in July–August is harsh and busy — I avoid it for portraits.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a photo session in Positano cost?

I offer two packages that work everywhere on the coast — Express Session at €120 (one location, up to 45 minutes, up to 50 edited images) and Signature Photo Walk at €200 (2–3 locations, up to 90 minutes, up to 100 edited images). Most couples in Positano choose the Signature so we can move from the church area down to the beach.

When should we book?

For May–October dates, two to four weeks in advance is comfortable. For peak weeks (June, late August) and weekends, earlier is better. I keep one or two slots per day to handle late requests, but they fill up quickly.

Where do we meet?

I usually suggest meeting at the top of Via Cristoforo Colombo, near Hotel Poseidon, because parking is limited lower down. If you're staying in the village we can meet at your hotel — just send the address when you book.

Is Positano good for a couples session even in high season?

Yes — but only at the right hours. At 7:30 AM the famous viewpoints are almost empty. By 11 AM they are not. We start early and you'll have the village largely to yourselves for 30–40 minutes of unrushed shooting.

Do you handle outfit changes?

One quick change works fine if we're in the Signature package — there are a few discreet spots near Spiaggia Grande. For two changes I'd recommend booking a hotel close to the route so we can pop in mid-session.
